Bad Beat Hits Again

Congratulations to Karoon Monfared (New York, NY) who won the small Bad Beat Jackpot when his quad threes lost to Ari Nissim's (Morris Plaines, NJ) quad fours.

It all went down at 1:00 AM in the back of the Borgata Poker room on a $2 - $5 no limit hold'em cash game.

Karoom wins $20,000 of the jackpot while Ari earns $10,000 and the pot for winning the hand.

Seven remaining players at the table evenly split the remaining $20,000.  More details from our Borgata Winter Poker Open Live Updates team.

This is the 99th time the Borgata Bad Beat Jackpot has hit for over $11.8M!

Fabulous Poker February at Borgata

Well, the bubble has been broken at the Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship and 72 players are getting paid as they play down to a final table Friday and a shot at the $542,771 top prize.

But if you’re thinking Borgata’s winter action is all behind you, think again. We have a lot of special high stakes tournament action on tap for February along with our daily tournaments.

It starts with a one-day, $100.000 Guaranteed Saturday Series event on Feb. 11 starting at 11am.

Look, you have to get through Valentine’s Week anyway, why not start by treating yourself to some poker action?

The $350 + $50 No Limit tournament will be held in the Borgata Poker Room and The Signature Room. Re-entries are allowed through the first six levels. Players start with 15K in chips with 30 minute levels. Antes, as usual, kick in at level 5.

Also on the February schedule is a major $30,000 Guaranteed Big Stack Pot Limit Omaha Weekend, which is a one-of-a-kinder for Atlantic City. The event carries a $30,000 guarantee split between two tournaments ($15,000 each).

First is a $200 + $30 Pot Limit Omaha 8B (Re-Entry) on Friday Feb. 25 at 11am.

On Saturday Feb. 26 comes a $200 + $30 Pot Limit Omaha High (Re-Entry) also at 11am.

Both tournaments start players with 15K in starting chips. Go here for the event schedules.

And for the month of February, players can compete for a seat at a $20,000 Free Roll tournament March 13.

Play a minimum of 50 hours (February 1 - 29) to be invited to the Free-Roll

Live Action (rated play)
50 hours = 10,000 in tournament chips
75 hours = 12,500 in tournament chips
90+ hours = 15,000 in tournament chips

Also, the top 300 players from the Borgata tournament leader board will also be invited to participate in the Free-Roll.

Top prize is $5,000. Go here for details.

Speaking of the Borgata Winter Poker Open Leaderboard, a new update is available here.

Here's the top 3 with only two days left in the Borgata Winter Poker Open series.

583.605 PTS: THOMAS HOGLUND (NEW BEDFORD, MA)
569.668 PTS: EMANUEL FAILLA (SMITHTOWN, NY)
427.393 PTS: JOSEPH OPIE (FAIR HAVEN, NJ)

And finally, the Borgata Bad Beat Jackpot has managed to go a couple of days without a $50K small bad beat hit and is at $456,282.

Will the jackpot survive the Open? Keep tabs on it here.

Plenty of Action Left at The Borgata Winter Poker Open

Well we’ve cleared our way through the re-entries for the Borgata Winter Open Championship and it looks like the $3,300 buy-in tourney will be pushing around 730 entries (unofficially at this point), and easily come in above the $2 Million Guarantee.

After Day 1A Sunday, Alex Queen of Bethlehem Pa. held the chip lead and gets a $5,000 bonus as Day 1A chip leader. You may have heard of Queen. They did Bohemian Rhapsody. No, wait. Alex Queen is the winner of the 2010 Borgata Spring Poker Open, ($355,535) and pretty much a regular at Borgata events.

We’ve also got November Niner Phil Collins (5th, 2011 WSOP Main Event, not the guy from Genesis) and Will "The Thrill" Failla in the mix after Day 1A. You can follow this ongoing action at our live blog tonight and through Friday.

But just because the championship event is closed, that hardly means the Borgata Winter Poker Open is closed to you. We’ve got main events everyday through Friday Feb. 3.

Here’s a look at the remaining main event schedule:

Event 25, Black Chip Bounty No Limit Hold'Em, $350 + $50 + $100
Tue, 1/31 11am

Event 26, Big Stack No Limit Hold'Em (Re-Entry) $200 + $30  $100,000 GUARANTEED
Wed, 2/1 11am

Event 27 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo No Limit Hold'Em (Re-Entry) $200 + $30Thu, 2/2 11am

Event 28 Black Chip Bounty No Limit Hold'Em $200 + $30 + $100

So that’s some nice variety with two bounty tournaments, a Big Stack and a Semi-Turbo. Only at Borgata. Go here for schedule and structures.

And don’t forget the Borgata Bad Beat Jackpot, which was at about $436, 000 last we checked. But keeping up with the total has become full time work as the Small Bad Beat Jackpot keeps hitting for $50K.

The Small Bad Beat Jackpot pays for a minimum of quad dueces to nines. The full jackpot pays for a minimum hand of quad 10s.

On Thursday, January 26 at around 6pm the small jackpot hit for $50K at a $2-$5 NL table when quad deuces was crushed by a jack high straight flush.

Chris Siam of Ellicott City, MD. was hardly crushed though, as those deuces paid him $20K. Mr. Straight Flush, Dayalal Bhuva of Sayerville, won $10K ( and the pot) while six other players took home quad threes, or $3,333.

And it looks like the small bad beat also hit the next day.  Giuseppe Ditillo of Flushing, NY won $20K when his quad nines were beaten by Angel Roman (San Juan, PR) and his quad queens.  Again, six other players took home $3,333 each.  Keep tabs on the Borgata Bad Beat jackpot here.

So grinders, there’s a lot of action still going during the last week of the Borgata Winter Poker Open and a loose Borgata Bad Beat Jackpot.

It's a good time to take a trip down to Borgata.

Borgata Winter Poker Open Contest Winner

Congratulations the Borgata Winter Poker Open Contest Winner ...

CRYSTAL MILLER

Championship Weekend Starts at The Borgata Winter Poker Open

One of the best poker weekends of the year is on tap this weekend as Borgata goes all in on the 2012 Borgata Winter Poker Open with the opening day of the $2 Million Guaranteed Borgata Winter Open Championship on Sunday Jan. 29 (Day 1A) and Monday Jan. 30 (Day 1B) at 11am both days.

Just a little quick history. Last year’s Borgata Winter Poker Open champ was Vadim Shlez, who won $533,210 of the $2,369,400 total buy-in from a field of 718 players. With the 2012 Open setting crowd records, the sky’s the limit this year.

Plus, with the start days for the $3,300 + $200, No Limit Hold’Em Championship apon us, the bulk of the satellite qualifiers get underway starting today (Jan. 27) at 3pm.

Here’s the satellite schedule again:

Event 43 Fri Jan 27 3pm $100 + $20 (~ 1 in 35)
Event 45 Sat Jan 28 12pm $175 + $25 (~ 1 in 20)
Event 46 Sat Jan 28 3pm $350 + $50 (~ 1 in 10)
Event 47 Sat Jan 28 8pm $500 + $50 (~ 1 in 7)
Event 48 Sun Jan 29 12pm $350 + $50 (~ 1 in 10)
Event 49 Sun Jan 29 3pm $700 + $50 (~ 1 in 5)
Event 50 Sun Jan 29 7pm $350 + $50 (~ 1 in 10)

The qualifying tournaments offer up championship seats in a simple percentage. If one in 10 players win seats in the tournament, than 10 seats would be awarded for 100 players (pretty sure of the math this time).

The Borgata Winter Open Championship Event starts players with 30K in tournament chips. Re-entries through Level 4. Levels are at 75 minutes to start. Antes kick in at Level 5.

$5,000 will be subtracted from the prize pool and awarded to the chip leaders after Day 1A and Day 1B respectively.

On site registration is open 8am until Midnight daily for all remaining Borgata Winter Poker Open events through Feb. 3.

Saturday’s main event is a Six Max No Limit, $200,000 guaranteed $1,000 + $90 buy-in No Limit Hold’Em tournament starting at 11am. It’s a two-day tournament through Sunday.

Click here for the Borgata Winter Poker Open full schedule and structures.

If that’s not enough, remember cash games continue in the Borgata Poker Room buoyed by the Borgata Bad Beat Jackpot, which is at $441,500 going into Friday’s play. The jackpot continues to rage forward even as $50K small bad beats keep coming. Check on the jackpot here.

And as always, the Borgata Event Center will bring you the best of this weekend’s sports action on the giant screens during tournament play.

This could be the weekend that changes your life folks - at Borgata.

Borgata Winter Poker Open Brings In Record-Breaking Crowds

By now you probably know that the Borgata Winter Poker Open is a record breaker for Borgata.

No? Let me tell you about it.

The Borgata Winter Poker Open is a record breaker for the casino.

Oh you want proof? I got stats here.

The 1,873 players (including re-entries) that played in the opening event is the largest opening day crowd for a Borgata poker open ever, beating any and all Borgata Poker Opens, the signature poker event on the East Coast.

That’s a nine percent up-tick over the 2011 Borgata Poker Open (September) and a whopping 27 percent increase over the 2011 Borgata Winter Poker Open.

The prize pool, at $936,500, is also a record for a Borgata opening event, easily beating the $500,000 guarantee.

Of course the previous opening prize pool record came at last year’s Borgata Winter Poker Open on a $500 + $60 game at $736,000.

There’s no question the Borgata Winter Poker Open is fast becoming one of the most popular signature poker events on the East Coast.

Of course you can’t maintain these crowds in every event at an action-packed room like Borgata’s as secondary, satellite and cash games continue. But crowds have been large at most of the early events except for specialty tournaments such as Stud and Pot Limit Omaha.

Event 2, a $350 + $50 + $100 bounty tournament drew 550 players and a total buy-in of $192,500.

Event 7 this Saturday, a $350 + $50 No Limit tournaments, drew 545 players and a total buy-in of $190,750.

Drawing better than 500 for medium-sized tournaments shows the 2012 Winter Open is bringing them in.

Even Event 6, a pretty high-stakes buy-in at $1,000 + $90 drew better than 200 players.

So what’s the point of all this? Hey, the place is CROWDED.

Come on down. You’re not going to just end up playing with the same bunch of folks you always see at the Borgata Buffet (one of Borgata’s many fine casual dining options) or a bunch a Baltimore Raven fans fantasizing about Billy Cundiff making the kick.

OK, they’ll be there, but so will a lot of other people including the best poker talent on the East Coast and from around the country.

One other reason for the crowds is probably the Borgata Bad Beat Jackpot, which now sits at more than $450,000 and added $45K in the last three days. That’s an amazing pick up for just one weekend, really.

And now for some links, ‘cause everyone loves the links.

To follow The Borgata Winter Poker Open live and check out reports on past events, go to The Borgata Winter Open live blog.

To keep up with the Bad Beat Jackpot, go here.

And finally, Borgata is giving away one more seat for the Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship Event (Jan. 29 - Feb.3) through a special drawing. You can enter here through January 26.

Stay thirsty my friends.

What? I just made that up.
